Although I didn’t know it at the time, meeting Nicole in late winter 2017 was like coming face to face with a tornado. She had inquired about model photography Colorado and we were on our first shoot. Nicole wanted model portfolio photography of herself and I needed to lose myself in art. With my life changing fast, it was a relief to devote energy into a creative project.
From the beginning, we had a comfortable alliance –– experienced photographer and beginning model. “I’m not really a model.” I remember her saying. She might not have felt like a model then, but take a look at her now and you’ll see Colorado’s most sought after new sensation for figure and beauty photographers.

At first, I didn’t fully notice the beauty I was seeing. So I created landscape imagery with a beautiful woman as part of the composition. Then, all at once, something happened. I saw a diamond. I saw the start of a shooting star.
Not just a stunning face, Nicole is a doctor of pharmacy with a love for glamour.
Image on the left is the very first picture I did of Nicole. Wearing a red wig (right), comes from our very last photoshoot.

For years I had considered collaborating with just one person to create an ongoing pictorial series. Like Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O”Keeffe, I wanted a muse. And my novice model-to-be was enthused by the prospect.
We shot on rocks and in water. We climbed to find fire-burnt forests and we breathed the cold mountain air. These four: earth, air, water and fire were the spark.

These were sparkling days as Nicole immersed herself to transforming into a top model.

A lifelong professional photographer, I’ve done pictorial projects of all sorts. My introduction to photographing exotic women came early, when I assisted for a Penthouse Magazine spread. A fun experience, but I was more interested in shooting rapids than shooting pretty models.
Over the years, I accepted commissions from young women to create model portfolio and contest pictures. My preference though was to create real-life images that tell a story. Back in the 90s, a teenage girl came to my studio with her mom. We did a variety of shots and she sent them off to a Seventeen Magazine contest. She won. And a few months later she was on the cover of the mag. Now the strange part is, every model photography Colorado photoshoot has lead to good things for my subjects. Every beginner has gone on to become famous or sign with big agencies.

Although I never did shoot with Nicole again, I might have liked to. Lucky photographers will capture expressions like this.
